aster eggs began filling the supermarket shelves on Boxing Day, so we don’t blame you if you’ve already sampled some of this year’s chocolatey offering. The temptation is just too great.

If you’ve spent any time at all in your local Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Waitrose or M&S, you will have noticed the expansive selection of egg-cellent seasonal milk, white and dark creations. From Cadbury and Nestle, to your high end artisinal labels, for 2023, our favourite chocolatiers have gone all out so that no matter your preferences or dietary requirements, you can indulge this Easter.

The market is plentiful and brimming with dairy-free, gluten-free, and vegan alternatives to go alongside your classic Dairy Milk varieties. There are also sweet-filled, beauty and keepsake alternatives too – but for us, there is just something far more satisfying about finding our 4pm snack bar of choice paired alongside a shell of mouth-wateringly delicious chocolate. But where should you start?

If you are feeling overwhelmed by the sheer volume of Easter eggs available, you have come to the right place. We have taken it upon ourselves to rigorously test a seemingly endless quantity of the limited-edition combinations to find the ones that won’t disappoint whether you’re gifting of self-gifting. It’s a tough job but someone’s got to do it.

Toblerone The Edgy Egg Milk Chocolate Easter Egg


You need not be passing through an airport to enjoy the nutty goodness of Toblerone. The honey and almond nougat chocolate is now available in egg form, paying homage to the traditional triangular design with a geometric edged shell. Alongside the egg, you’ll find mini versions of the beloved bar.

Not your average Full English. Playing on the signature British breakfast, Harvey Nichols is frying the chocolate egg and setting it on a piece of milk chocolate “brown” toast for a realistic but far more exciting take on the first meal of the day. The creation has been handcrafted and individually decorated in Somerset by aristanal chocolatiers using sourdough crumbs and sea salt for a crunch and a salty twist.

It isn’t Easter until you’ve had at least one Cadbury’s Chocolate Creme Egg but the confectionery company is doing things a little differently this year with its first innovation in 50 years.

For 2023, you will find the classic Creme Egg given a white chocolate makeover. The cracking innovation will come welcomed to those who like their chocolate on the sweet side and you may just find yourself converted, reaching for this combination over the original milk.

Look out also for the brand new Cadbury Salted Caramel Eggs (£2).

Fortnum & Mason Hand-Painted Chick Easter Egg

Almost too beautiful to eat, this Easter egg features a hand painted chick design that will be followed with awe when unwrapped. Ideal for gifting, the piece of food art has been made from Colombian milk chocolate, cocoa solids and a white chocolate layer and then decorated using natural pigments by chocolatiers in Wales.

Choosing just one of the Cutter & Squidge Easter eggs is not an easy task. From the Billionaire Filled Easter Egg with salted caramel and honeycomb digestive crumb, to the Cookies & Cream Vegan Easter egg with a dairy-free caramel ganache-filling with Oreo cookies, the drool-worthy selection is sure to tickle your taste buds.

The winner for us, however, is the Funfetti with its hundreds and thousands-covered chocolate that is the best of both worlds for the aforementioned variations containing both the Oreo as well as the caramel, honeycomb crumb and dark chocolate dreambar inside.

Daylesford Easter Egg Hunt Kit


If you can’t make it down to the delightful Daylesford farm in the Cotswolds, you can create your own Easter egg hunt at home with the brand’s kit. Alongside the 35 milk chocolate eggs decorated in different coloured foil is a woven wicker basket that will serve you far beyond the seasonal celebrations. We’d pack it alongside our swimwear and cover-ups for our next beach break.

If you prefer the sweetness that this variation provides and are looking for something different than your traditional, go for the White Buttons that are adorned with a playful penguin design and will suit chocolate lovers of all ages. Alongside the white chocolate egg, you will find everyone’s favourite buttons in the same milky makeup.

Cocoba Sprinkles Egg, 250g


Decorated with jazzie sprinkles all over, this is an egg that will bring out your inner childlike excitement and will have you counting down the days till Easter. Crafted in milk chocolate with a drizzle and multicoloured hundreds and thousands, it tastes as good as it looks.

ALDI Dairyfine Sundaes


The ALDI Easter range is only available in store but you will find unique and novelty creations like the Dairyfine Sundaes. Taking the idea of an Easter egg and running with it, the budget supermarket has created two flavours to mimic that of an indulgent ice cream sundae.

The first, Strawberry Sundae, has a pink chocolate shell adorned with white chooclate drizzle, strawberry pieces and mini eggs. The second is the Chocolate Fudge Sundae made from milk chocolate and embellished with a caramel chocolate drizzle, mini eggs and fudge pieces. Both are then topped with glace cherry.

HAPPi Easter Eggs


There are three vegan, oat mi!k-based Easter eggs available from beloved free-from label HAPPi for Easter 2023. Whether you are a Salted Caramel devotee, a lover of classic Oat Mi!k, or are looking for something on the tangy spectrum with Orange, there’s an egg to suit all preference and whether you’re a big or little kid alike.

The decadent and smooth chocolate is made from single origin 47 per cent Colombian cacao and oat milk – with 35 per cent less sugar than some of the competitors on the market. You’ll also find the eggs wrapped in fully recyclable packaging.
