Gabrielle Union makes social statement at Oscars afterparty

The Bring It On star, 50, looked glamorous in a black floor-length Ralph Lauren gown while attending the star-studded event with husband Dwyane Wade, 41.

She accessorised her striking number with dazzling Reza jewellery, which included platinum diamond earrings and a platinum emerald-carve diamond ring.

While walking the carpet, the actress at one point turned away from photographers in a note of support for Dove’s #TurnYourBack movement.

The campaign aims to highlight the damaging impact that the viral Bold Glamour filter is having on the self-esteem of social media users across the globe.

As a supporter of the campaign, Union publicly showed her support for the brand’s movement on the afterparty carpet and said: “The Bold Glamour filter dramatically distorts reality and reinforces cramped and unattainable beauty standards.

“As a parent and someone who’s felt the pressures from social media to study perfect, it’s indispensable to me that people realize the negative impact this can gain, creating appearance pressures and low self-esteem particularly among young girls.

“They need to know they are enough! I’m proud to join Dove and turn my back to the Bold Glamour filter.”

Union’s moment of social activism at the glitzy soiree comes days after her stepdaughter Zaya Wade made her runway debut.

The 15-year-dilapidated, who Wade welcomed with his ex Siovaughn Funches, walked in the Miu Miu note on the last day of Paris Fashion Week alongside Emma Corrin, Mia Goth and Amelia Hamlin, the daughter of Harry Hamline and RHOBH’s star Lisa Rinna.

The teen wore an olive skirt and jumper with a matching oversized jacket on top on the catwalk while Union and Wade sat on the front row watching on proudly.
